Easter at NFUMC

Easter Sunday is almost here. We remember Jesus’s followers were devastated because of his death on the cross. It seemed the love of God had failed them, and life was not what they had expected. It was not until it became clear that Jesus had risen from the grave that hope was restored.

The resurrection of Jesus meets us in our broken lives as well and offers us new life. Easter is a celebration of a God whose love never fails. Join us from home or here as we find rebirth and resurrection in our lives together.

LENT 2025

Lenten Series: The Final Days of Jesus

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all tell the story of Jesus, devoting most of their story to detailing Jesus’ last week in Jerusalem, and his Passion (the last days of Jesus' life, which begin when he triumphantly enters the city and end with his crucifixion and death) from various perspectives. The differences between these four Gospels invite us to a new encounter with Jesus, to see him through the different perspectives of the witnesses, and to deepen our faith. Over the next 40 days, let’s journey with Jesus together through his final days.

Holy Week Services

Thursday, April 17 | 6:30 PM

What would it be like to walk with Jesus in His final hours, gathered around the table with His disciples in the Upper Room? On this sacred night, we step into their stories, reflecting on their experiences and our own as we come together to remember. Join us online, on our Facebook or YouTube as we embark on this journey.

Why Do We Celebrate Maundy Thursday?

Maundy Thursday commemorates the last evening Jesus spent with His disciples before His arrest and crucifixion. It marks three profound moments in His final week: the washing of His disciples' feet, the institution of the Lord’s Supper, and His new commandment to love one another.

The word Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum novum, meaning “new commandment,” referring to Jesus’ words in John 13:34: “A new commandment I give you: Love one another.” On this night, the loud hosannas of Palm Sunday have faded, and Jesus gathers His disciples for the Passover Feast—His Last Supper.

We invite you to pause, reflect, and remember with us as we enter this holy moment together.

Friday, April 18 | 6:30 PM

Invite your friends and join us, in person or online here or on our Facebook or YouTube pages, for our Good Friday service at 6:30 PM as we reflect on the final hours of Jesus' life.

This Tenebrae service, also known as the Service of Shadows, is an ancient Christian tradition that uses the gradual extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of Holy Week - from Jesus’ triumphant entry on Palm Sunday to His burial. As the light fades, we are reminded of the growing darkness of His death and the deep sorrow of a world without God.

The word Tenebrae comes from the Latin word for "darkness," inviting us into a time of solemn reflection and reverence.

Children are welcomed and encouraged to worship with us at NFUMC!

There are children's bulletins at each entrance to the Sanctuary to use during worship. Children are always welcome in our Sanctuary but we do have a Nursery for infants through age 3.

Our Nursery is available during both of our worship services and during the Sunday school hour. It is located on the second floor of the Education Wing. From the Sanctuary, exit by the rear entrance door on the left side of altar area, turn right, and follow the “nursery” signs. The live stream of worship is also available in the Nursery.

Kids are invited to the front of the sanctuary for a children’s time during both services on most Sundays. Following the children’s time, those in Pre-K through 2nd grade are invited to leave for Children's Church worship activities outside of the sanctuary and return before the end of the service. Kids in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade are offered activity boxes to help them stay focused throughout the sermon.
